New eBook: The Art of Being Minimalist
Everett Brogue is kind enough to list me in a chapter called “Meet the Minimalists,” part of his new eBook, The Art of Being Minimalist. He writes:
I’m not the only minimalist in the world. There’s a growing community of amazing individuals who subscribe to the idea of living with less.
Yes: community. I’ve often thought that one of the reasons we find ourselves where we are today — overwhelmed and overconsuming — is due to the breakdown of community. Our communities provide important social cues, helping us live in balance with others and with the environment.
The Art of Being Minimalist is essentially an invitation to community. It’s a beautifully written, beautifully illustrated guide to re-imagining your life as a minimalist, joining the vanguard of what I call the Minimalist Century. Through minimalism, you can learn to discard the unnecessary, and find time to reconnect with the world around you.
A beautiful book about beautiful living
But this isn’t a book review. You’ll find almost half of The Art of Being Minimalist in browsable form at the eBook’s new website, which makes it much simpler to get a feel for the work than a secondhand summary. The total work is 67 pages, covering everything from taking stock of your current attachment to stuff to applying minimalist principles to the way you work and plan for the future.
Some of the chapters not available in the content sample:
- Why You haven’t Done Anything with your Life (Yet)
The Ultimate Guide to the Minimalist Workweek
How to Compensate a Minimalist
How to Survive the Great Recession (If It Ever Ends)
16 Simple Ways to Clear Your Mind
In addition to being an original, clear, and concise writer, Everett is a terrific photographer. He’s used his work (and a great sense of layout and typography) to create what is probably the most attractive eBook you’ve ever seen. There’s no reason minimalism can’t be attractive.
How to get it

I downloaded this book and read it this afternoon. I really enjoyed the stories and examples in the book and could relate to a lot of the suggestions. I loved this book also because of the positive reinforcement it gives a few of the things I was already doing, especially when most attitudes are “what a weirdo.” Easy to read, thanks for the free download!
Love it! A great idea. I'll check it out.
This looks like an excellent book – buying it now! Thanks for giving a quick synopsis of it.
Cheers,
Matt
