This has been our first year canning and absolutely love it. These veggies/fruits most often taste 10 times batter than if from a can or store PLUS if you grew it yourself you know what is put on it.

  2. Picked this up on a shared feed this morning. This post took me back. I remember doing all this stuff back in the day. For nine years, though, I've lived in Phoenix. It's ironic that it's almost the exact opposite here.

Since the temperatures are finally staying below 80* during the day, I think everyone in Phoenix appreciates the arrival of “fall” because we can turn the AC off and seldom need the heater. We've just begun a time of year when our electric bills drop considerably due to the AC being unnecessary.

And we don't do daylight savings time here either. Granted, it's still dark by 6PM, but the daylight savings time thing really does more to alter our TV watching (for those who still watch TV). All summer, we're on California (Pacific) time. Now that it's winter, we're on Colorado (Mountain) time. If a show airs at 8PM Eastern and Pacific, how do we figure that out? I haven't watched TV in so long now, I can't recall, but there's a trick.

I've never been afraid of the mercury threat in CFLs. I was installing them in automation equipment back in 2001 and brought a couple to Phoenix with me when I moved here. It was quite exciting last night when one of those bulbs (yes, one of those nearly 9 year old CFLs), finally died. I like to think that the people freaking out about the mercury in CFLs are probably unaware that their talking on their iPhones while driving their Prius solo in the HOV lane are presenting a far greater threat to our society.

Plenty long enough comment for a first timer to this site, but like I said, it's valuable information to share and sometimes it can be nice to see how it's done where it doesn't get cold, or rain, or otherwise participate in the conventional (how I miss them) seasons.

Good advice. I'm moving into an apartment in the next couple weeks and need all the advice I can get about saving money!
